The sponge is a yellowish block that can absorb water around it within a 6 block radius. It will also absorb water from above and below itself, up to a maximum of 65 blocks. Once absorbed, the sponge will become wet and discolored. You can dry the sponge in the furnace or Hell.
You can find a sponge in an ocean monument, it is sometimes generated in rooms, or you can kill a guardian.
