The mycelium is a block similar to the dirt, but instead of grass with a gray-brown layer on top. Mycelium is generated in the mushroom biome. You can not plant trees and flowers on the mycelium, but mushrooms grow on it (and do not collapse in the light) and a mushroom cow may appear (but only in the mushroom biome).
To get a block of mycelium, you need to destroy it with a tool with the silk touch enchantment, otherwise, it will fall out just dirt.
